Sleep apnea screening from bedroom audio

A consumer app that records bedroom sounds nightly, analyzes audio patterns for apnea risk signals (gasping, choking, irregular breathing pauses), and surfaces a confidence score and doctor-ready summary to prompt timely sleep study referrals.

The problem

People with undiagnosed sleep apnea suffer years of poor sleep, daytime fatigue, and cardiovascular risk without realizing their snoring and breathing interruptions warrant clinical evaluation. Existing sleep trackers detect snoring but lack apnea-specific diagnostics; users renew subscriptions hoping for better insights but get generic sleep scores instead. Without a clear signal to seek diagnosis, many never reach a sleep neurologist.

Who has it: People who snore or suspect sleep apnea (daytime fatigue, witnessed breathing pauses, partner complaints) but have not yet seen a sleep specialist; typically 35–65, health-conscious, willing to pay for early diagnosis to avoid long-term cardiovascular damage.

Why now: Smartphone audio processing and machine learning models for breathing-pattern recognition have matured; telemedicine and home sleep apnea tests (HSATs) are now covered by insurance and endorsed by sleep medicine societies, creating a direct referral path from app insight to clinical action.
